A Floury History
Every country or region has its own traditional food. However, one staple is common to all people – BREAD. For thousands of years, it has been the essential food item, presented in a fun and dynamic documentary-educational format through Sandra Đuretić’s series, A Floury History.
There is no fundamental difference whether bread is made from corn or wheat flour, whether it is white or dark, baked on a griddle or in an oven, salted or not – bread is bread in Georgia, Egypt, Greece, India, Italy, China, as well as in Hungary, Mexico, Germany, France, Russia, or Serbia. By presenting traditional types of bread and pastries from these countries, viewers will have the opportunity to learn about the history of grain production and use, the origins of flour, the effects of yeast and its application in kneading, and the traditional making of dough and pastries. They will also discover when and how the first bread was made. Each episode covers a specific period and segments of daily life, told through the dishes and recipes of the time, while also bringing closer the material and spiritual culture of past eras when life was more in harmony with nature and its blessings were used abundantly.
